September 30 is the annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day provides an opportunity to recognize and commemorate the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools, and to honour survivors, their families and communities.

Annually, Tulipe Noire donates 100% of their sales for September 30 to the Victoria Native Friendship Centre (VNFC).

Kari is a proud Metis Cree woman, and is especially proud to serve the Victoria Native Friendship Centre as Director of Community Engagement & Fund Development. Her responsibility is to educate the corporate community in meeting the Call to Action #92. Improving the lives of urban Indigenous first peoples is her purpose here on this earth.

Kari believe that everyone needs a place to call home. Everyone deserves to be housed, to be fed, to be healthy, accepted, and valued.

These are the values that guide Kari's work and life ~ from CEO of Tulipe Noire Clothing Inc. to the role of Community Engagement and Fund Development Director at the Victoria Native Friendship Centre (VNFC).

Kari is starting a monthly donation campaign at VNFC - her goal is 500 donors at $25-$100 a month to make a serious jump in funds for food security. Join Kari in reaching her goals, reach out today or head to the VFNC website to learn how you can become an ally in reconciliation.

Your monthly gift supports wrap-around programming that includes full daycare, early childhood development programs, family violence prevention, law and health services, mental health and addictions supports, education and employment programs, youth services, food security programs, housing supports and services, Elders programs, a full community kitchen, cultural and arts events.

As a proud Metis Cree woman, I’m especially proud to serve the Victoria Native Friendship Centre in my role as Director of Community Engagement & Fund Development. My responsibility to educating the corporate community in meeting the Call to Action #92 is what I strive to do day in and day out. Improving the lives of urban Indigenous first peoples. That is my purpose here on this earth. - Kari McLay
